Saturday is Rotarians at Work Day and Rotarians worldwide will be doing community service projects. As you know we will have two projects for you to choose from, so if you haven’t signed up yet, please do so. And bring your family and friends, too.

Jon Greene is coordinating our volunteers at the Sun Valley Health & Safety Fair, held at the Sun Valley Family Resource Center, 115 W 6th Avenue. It started several years ago at Virginia Palmer Elementary and has become a big event with many volunteers and organizations helping the youth of Sun Valley. Contact Jon for start times and how your talents can be put to good use.

Susan Smith is coordinating our volunteers at the Urban Roots Farm, 3001 W 4th Street. We will be planting, constructing a dome and laying out sod for a play area. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and if you have a cordless drill please bring it. Work gloves will come in handy, too.

The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise and edible Reno-Tahoe Magazine presented Jaime and Erika, $500 scholarships each at a luncheon hosted by the Douglas High School Culinary Program. Both young ladies will be attending TMCC’s two year culinary program in the fall and then a four year school in the future. The Rotary Club of Minden generously donated $500 to help the program purchase new uniforms for future competitions. As you may recall, the DHS Culinary Program staffed the Genoa ride stop for the 2011 Edible Pedal 100™. We look forward to seeing Kerry and her kids at the Genoa stop again this year. Stay tuned as we announce the scholarship recipients for Carson High and Washoe AACT. Thank you riders, sponsors and volunteers for helping us “Give Back”!

Thank you to all the Riders, Volunteers, Sponsors, Chefs, Farmers, and Rotarians that made this event a huge success.

It was a day of amazing weather, awesome food and a fun ride – everyone had a great time. Don’t take it from us, here’s what some of riders had to say:

This was one of the best century rides ever! Very organized and the volunteers were great. Thanks to all who made this an overwhelming success! I’m training for next year.

Probably the BEST organized ride I’ve been on. Every station all the volunteers were telling us about any road issues, etc. Food was fantastic (locally made, healthy stuff). Free beer at the end! I don’t have anything bad to relate whatsoever nor can I really think how it could be improved.

My husband, son and I had such a wonderful time on the 50-mile ride yesterday. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and the ride was impressively organized for it’s first run. Great job!

Photos and more information can be found on the Edible Pedal 100 website.

Thank you for your support and we hope you’ll ride with us again next year: Mark your calendar for Sept. 16, 2012!
