Virginia Palmer Elementary School is one of
four schools serving the children in the Sun Valley area. The Rotary
Club of Reno Sunrise has been a Partner in Education at Virginia Palmer
since the 1998 - 99 academic year. Reno Sunrise is involved in both
one time projects and in ongoing projects.
One time projects have included work on the playground,
planting trees, and installing a sump pump system.
Ongoing projects include:
- Happy Feet - providing shoes to students
- Winter Jackets - providing jackets to students
- Shopping with a Rotarian - twice a year a group
of 20 - 25 students are taken on a shopping trip
- Read and Succeed - Reno Sunrise Rotarians work with
students on their reading once a week
- Teacher Grants - Teachers apply for small grants for
class and school projects, supplies, subscriptions, etc.
- Walk This Way - Working with
Safe Kids Washoe County,
Rotarians teach children how to safely walk to school
- Safety & Health Fair - Along with
Safe Kids Washoe County,
the Reno Sunrise Rotary sponsors an annual safety and health fair.
