Steve Grace, a retired physician from Reno, followed his dreams and established a winery in Apple Valley, California.
Steve developed an appreciation for wines when he was doing his residency in Los Angeles. After deciding to go into the wine business, Steve took winemaking classes at UC Davis, and his two sons also studied winemaking. Steve discussed how he made the decision to leave the medical profession and start a family winery. His first planting was in 2001, and his first vintage in 2004 was produced by another winery. In 2010, Lewis Grace Winery produced its first vintage on location. They have since grown and have been producing award winning wines.
Steve pointed out that while he was starting the winery, he kept his day job in Reno and did not retire from medicine until the winery was established. He also talked about some of the regulatory issues that he has faced from the federal, state and local levels. His presentation ended with a raffle of three bottles of Lewis Grace wine.
