Our speaker yesterday was Bill McGillis who is a Senior Advisor for Nevada Athletics. Bill helps to manage the Wolf Pack's gameday efforts and the external operations. He talked in general about Nevada Athletics 7 men's programs and 10 women's programs. Bill said that with several of the teams they made the decision to hire local head coaches rather than do a national search.
One of the issues that Nevada Athletics has faced in the past is not having first class facilities for some of the sports. Fortunately this is becoming a thing of the past as the new field house is about ready to open, and with the new basketball stadium that is under construction at the Grand Sierra Resort.
Bill also addressed two important issues relating to the athletes. First he proudly covered the academic achievements of the athletes. And secondly he discussion the complex issue of athlete compensation and how UNR and many colleges/universities are responding.
