At Friday's meeting we were joined by Carina Black, the Executive Director of the Northern Nevada International Center. NNIC is a non-profit that is affiliated with the University of Nevada Reno and partners with the United States Department of State. NNIC's mission is to promote international engagement, cross-cultural understanding, and community empowerment through global education, refugee resettlement, and language access.
Working with the Dept of State NNIC hosts international visitors and provides them with a view of what America is, and how we do things. These international visitors may be a group of lawyers from African countries, or journalists from several Asian countries, or elected city officials from Europe. Carina mentioned that about one third of government leaders (at various levels in their home countries) have participated in State Dept. programs similar to the programs that NNIC offers.
