Eric Endacott gave us a pre-recorded Zoom follow-up report on progress with the Green Sahel Project, which we supported financially. 

 

VNGPS (Volunteer Network for a Green Sahel), a reliable NGO described as "The Rotary of Senegal," is making excellent progress with their goals of planting 16,000 fruit trees for families all along the Sahel region of Senegal and establishing a community farm. 

 

The primary goal is to provide sustainable solutions to hunger and malnutrition.  Secondary benefits include mitigating climate change, financial instability, expansion of the Sahara Desert and diminishing biodiversity in the region.  100% of the donated funds were used to buy materials and labor was provided by VNGPS members.

Charlie Fettig rang the bell in celebration for his new EV purchase.  You will need to chat with him about the details.

 

John Albrecht rang the bell for completing an 8,300 mile cross country road trip with his son.  It was a spectacular adventure for him.

 

Martha Greene had two announcements worth your attention.

 

As president of the Reno Sunrise Rotary Club Charitable Foundation she confirmed we have donated $2,500 to the Eddy House remodel project which will increase the number of beds available for women.  At a later date she will announce how we can lend a hand with the remodel.

 

Also, she has been working with children at Lena Juniper Elementary School and will be letting us know how we can be involved in their Angel Tree program.

 

Jim Van Winkle announced early plans are underway to assist in Christmas tree recycling as our January community service project.  We will send out a sign up email when dates have been firmed up.

 

At last week's meeting Pete Krup, owner of Swill Coffee & Wine, announced that all of the tables are being resurfaced.  Only one table is still in progress.  They all look wonderful.  Thanks for the upgrade Pete!
