President Dave presided over the first meeting of his 2026–2027 term as president of the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise. Among those attending were two Area 8 governors and three presidents from fellow Area 8 clubs.
Near the close of the meeting, Dave introduced a new program called “Membership Profile,” which will give club members an opportunity to share their personal stories. He launched the program by highlighting his professional career, volunteer service, and a few interesting personal tidbits.
Our speaker today was Aviva Abramovsky who is the President and CEO of the National Judicial College. The NJC is a non-profit educational institution that is affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno. The NJC trains judges so that they can better perform their duties as a judge. Most of the attendees are local and state judges (the Federal court system has its own judge training system). There are also students from other countries who attend the NJC.
Most of the instructors are volunteer current and retired judges, and law school faculty members. The NJC also offers master's and Ph.D. degrees in cooperation with the University of Nevada, Reno.
Members of the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise recently helped welcome students and families back to school at two local elementary schools. At Echo Loder Elementary, members distributed backpacks to students. At Libby Booth Elementary, we provided paint-by-number kits and assisted teachers wherever needed. Several parents also stopped by our booth to learn more about Rotary and our work in the community.
During the coming year, our club hopes to raise funds and organize service projects benefiting students at Echo Loder, Libby Booth, and Huffaker elementary schools.
Reno Sunrise Rotary Club gathered at Cook’d on July 31 for our monthly social. It was a hot summer day, and our first seating area was a little more “well done” than we had bargained for! Fortunately, we were able to move inside and cool off in the air conditioning. Once settled, everyone enjoyed good food, refreshing beverages, and plenty of great Rotary camaraderie.
