Jo Anne Gonzalez and Erika Mendoza Jansen spoke to us about the Washoe County CASA Foundation.  Jo Anne is the current Board Chair and Erika is the Executive Director.

 

CASAs or Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who assist children exposed to abuse and/or neglect.  Washoe CASA Foundation provides funding for volunteer training, recruitment, and community awareness.   Presently there are 90+ volunteer advocates in Washoe county.

 

CASA volunteers establish a trusting relationship with a child and advocate for their best interest in court.  They are given legal and medical record access to better understand the child's legal situation and any physical or emotional challenges.
