Washoe County Commission Chair Clara Andriola and children’s behavioral health advocate Elizabeth Quinn shared plans for the Washoe Children’s Behavioral Health Center, a much-needed resource for young people and their families.

The former West Hills Hospital is being remodeled to provide a setting for treatment, recovery, and support. Planned features include approximately 70 beds, therapeutic spaces, classrooms, and recreational areas, along with facilities to train behavioral health professionals.

According to the speakers, the project has received $23.8 million in public funding, with an additional $12 million in philanthropic support needed to complete the facility. Their presentation highlighted an opportunity for our community to help children receive the care they need closer to home.

We thank Clara and Elizabeth for their dedication to improving the lives of children and families in our region.

Before You Hibernate… Join Us for a Fall Social!

The bears in our backyard are busy preparing for their winter retreat, but there’s still time for us to gather before settling in for the season!

Join your Reno Sunrise friends at Dave and Ryoko’s home on October 30 to celebrate fall, Nevada Day, and Nevada’s admission to the Union in 1864. Enjoy an evening of friendship and conversation as we toast the Silver State and the season.  Details

We hope to see you there—hibernation can wait!

This evening was our last evening in Malaysia.  Our group was hosted for dinner by three Rotary clubs that are in Melaka.  I exchanged a Reno Sunrise banner with Simon Ong, the president of the Rotary Club of Malacca.  (Melaka is the Malaysian name of the city and Malacca is the European name)
