Our speaker this morning was Darcy Phillips, the Executive Director of Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. KTMB is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to creating a more sustainable and beautiful region through waste reduction, education and active community involvement. Darcy talked about some of the challenges that our region faces relating to waste reduction. Some of these challenges include the lack of recycling facilities, the costs to recycle some items, and dealing with illegal dumping. Darcy gave us a little quiz. She help up common objects and asked us how long the item takes to decompose - some of the items were a few years and others were never.
