Donate to the RYLA Bike Project
At our club meeting on December 9, 2022 Bailey Ivory and Marlita Fong described the life-changing experience of participating in RYLA and how are club can support the RYLA Bike Project.

Each year RYLA participants get to spend a day getting to know children from the Boys & Girls Clubs, then present them with a brand new bicycles.  It is a special event that lets the kids know that someone cares about them and is willing to invest in their future.

RYLA is requesting financial support for this project from all of the the Rotary clubs in the district.  Our support will help them purchase bicycles and helmets.

They have partnered with Scheels who is providing them bicycles and helmets that retail at $300-$500 for only $115 per unit.  In addition, they will provide lifetime repair service for these bicycles.

Each bicycle we donate will have the following decal:

Our club's board of directors have requested that our charitable foundation donate at least two bicycles this year.  If you would like to support this effort, please send your donations to the RSR Charitable Foundation for the "RYLA Bike Project."
Foodbank of Northern Nevada Project for March

Back by popular demand - Foodbank of Northern Nevada Project!

We all had a great time sorting food donations at the Foodbank of Northern Nevada in June 2022, so I have reserved a date to return and help them out again this year.

Please mark your calendars for March 18, 2023.  It is only a 2 hour commitment which I think you will find fun and rewarding.

May is Bike Month
May is Bike Month where local community leaders can come together and promote safe and fun ways to get out on a bicycle for exercise, pleasure, or alternative transportation.  Truckee Meadows Bike Alliance (TMBA) is a collaboration between local non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals to promote bicycling as an alternative form of transportation.  The primary goals are to reduce air pollution, reduce traffic congestion, support transportation independence, and promote healthy active lifestyles.

TMBA approached our club to see if they could tap into our experience running the Edible Pedal 100 to help establish a new annual family-oriented fun ride to be held in May.  Although many of the original EP-100 organizers are now longer in the club, we have a substantial inventory of ride-support equipment in storage and members with strong organizing skills.

On December 19 our Board of Directors voted to explore the opportunity to assist in their fun ride.  Therefore, I am asking for members (and friends of the club) to step forward for the following:
  1. Logistical planning support - This will involve periodic Zoom meetings over the next few months.
  2. Warehouse inventory review.
  3. Day of ride assistance.

Though the initial ride will likely be modest in scope, it has the possibility of growing into a very popular annual ride.  Please touch base with me as to how you can contribute to ride.
Rotary Rose Bowl Parade Award

If you didn't have electricity available to watch the Rose Bowl Parade this year you may have missed the award winning float presented by the Rotary Rose Bowl Float Committee.  It was assembled by Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors.  The float received the Princess Award for the most outstanding floral presentation among entries 35 feet and under in length.  Here is a news video link:
