Neoma Jardon is the Executive Director of the Downtown Reno Partnership and gave an excellent presentation on what is being done to create a safe, clean and vibrant Downtown Reno.

 

The Ambassador Services for the homeless has reduced demand for emergency services.  Along with regional collaboration and the opening of the Nevada CARES campus, unsheltered homelessness has been reduced by 42%.  There has been a reduction of nuisance crime by 50%.  Graffiti is getting quickly removed.  Based on assessment fees collected, property value has risen 30.2%.

 

If you are downtown and see anything of concern (graffiti, garbage, new encampments, etc.), you can get a rapid corrective response by calling the Ambassador Program at:

Our club's social event for this month is the Laugh Factory Friday night, February 24.  If you didn't sign up, feel free to join us for a Happy Hour at Run Bullions inside the Silver Legacy at 5:30 pm.  The comedy show will be at the Laugh Factory starting at 7:30 pm.  Although we have already purchased the group tickets, you can still purchase your own and join us if desired.  Are you ready for some laughs?  See you tomorrow evening.

We will not be having a formal meeting tomorrow morning (February 24), but you can join the "Purple Parrot Group" at 7:00 am.  They meet at the Purple Parrot inside the Atlantis Hotel and Casino.

 

Our next meeting is on March 3.  We will hear from Hilary Lopez, Executive Director of the Reno Housing Authority about their mission, programs and what she sees in the future.

Come join us for a service event at the Food Bank of Northern Nevada on March 18, 2023.  This is a chance to give back to our community through our actions.  It is only a 2 hour commitment and is fun to boot.  If you haven't already signed up I encourage you to reconsider.

The Area 8 Foundation Dinner will be held on March 24 at the Nugget Casino Resort.  All members have received an invitation email.  If you didn't receive one, please let me know.

 

The speaker for the event will be Irene Perbal.  Perbal is the subject of the short film, "Irene Perbal - Of Hope and Hate" capturing the memory and message she has shared virtually her entire life.  As a girl in Amsterdam, she survived the Nazi occupation, surveillance, Allied bombing and the Hongerwinter of 1945.

In addition, we will honoring clubs and members for their achievements over the past year.  This is a nice time to socialize with members throughout Area 8.
