Steve Schroder was inducted by President Lynn as our newest member of Reno Sunrise Rotary Club at last Friday's meeting.  I was proud to be his sponsor.  Steve retired from Gastroenterology Consultants a little over a year ago and is interested in being part of Rotary International, giving back to our community and supporting global efforts.  His classification is Financial CPA.  This year he will assist Jim Van Winkle with Community Service.  Welcome Steve!

Colonel Waters received his Paul Harris Fellow +5 award in recognition of his generous donations to The Rotary Foundation.  His contributions will help support the seven areas of focus for the foundation: The Environment, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Maternal and Child Health, Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Water/Sanitation/Hygiene, Basic Education and Literacy, and Community Economic Development.

Come join us in celebrating Colonel Waters promotion to brigadier general on Friday July 14 after the meeting.  The ceremony is being held at the Reno-Stead Army Aviation Support Facility, 20000 Army Aviation Drive, Reno, NV 89506.

 

We will leave immediately after the meeting as it will be about a 25-30 minute drive from Swill Coffee & Wine.

The Biggest Little Mini Golf Derby is right around the corner and I would encourage you to register or donate now.  

 

The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise is hosting a family-oriented evening of miniature golf for fun, fellowship and fundraising on July 27, 2023 at Magic Golf starting at 6:00 pm.  The evening will include a friendly golf competition, sandwiches and soft drinks,  The soft drinks and sandwiches are included in the price of the ticket.

 

The proceeds will go the The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise Charitable Foundation to support the Desert Pigs, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that removes illegally dumped trash from our public lands.  These donation will help them by covering dump fees.

President Lynn conducted the first meeting of his 2023-2024 term last Friday.  He reviewed the club's financial status, which are excellent, and outlined areas of focus for the upcoming year.  One goal is to expand membership.  He would like every member to bring at least one guest or potential member to a meeting during the year.  Another is to achieve "Every Rotarian Every Year" status by having every member donate at least $25 to The Rotary Foundation annually.  You may do that via a pledge during one of the meetings, or set up one-time or recurring donations online at https://www.rotary.org/en/donate. Let's all help Lynn make this a fantastic Rotary year!
