Meeting Presentation January 3, 2025
Joanne Walen informed us about The Assistance League of Reno-Sparks.  The majority of their income is derived from thrift shop sales run by volunteers which now number 400.

The target beneficiaries include children, children and veterans.  They provide an annual shopping event for children, reading program, scholarship program, and manage a food pantry for seniors.

The thrift shop is located at 1701 Vassar Street in Reno.  For more information: https://www.assistanceleague.org/reno-sparks/

Meeting Presentation January 10, 2025
Lisa Ross is the Community Relations Officer for Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada.  Last year volunteers contributed over 57,000 hours to their cause.  Two thrift shops provide the majority of their funding.

They run two dining halls that provide 1,400 meals per day to those in need. They also run several food pantries.

Their social workers help their clients find housing and employment.  Their Elevating Families program is designed to help families end generational poverty.  The program is affiliated with Notre Dame University.

They have a Sober Living program which provides men with sober housing, workforce development and financial skills.

Los Barriles Project

Los Barriles is an annual medical project between the Rotary Club of Nevada City and the Rotary Club of Los Barriles.  Participants go to rural communities and provide medical care and medical screening.

The level of services offered depends on the community.   Participants do not need a medical background.  Non-medical participants serve as translators, help keep records, they help with logistics, and interact with children and other clients.

If you have an interest in participating, please reach out to Jon Greene.
