Peter Stanton, Executive Director of the Walker Basin Conservancy, spoke at last week's meeting. Their mission is to restore and maintain Walker Lake while protecting agricultural, environmental, and recreational interests throughout the Walker Basin. Over the past year, the lake level has increased by 15 feet, thanks to an excellent winter snow load and prior successful efforts to redirect water to the Walker River. 13,700 acres of land have been reconveyed to create public land opportunities. 33 miles of Walker River corridor has been opened for fishing, hunting and recreational access. |
