This morning Rotary Past International President Jerry Hall joined us to talk about several Rotary International projects in Uganda.
|
Jerry is a member of the Rotary Club of Reno, which has been instrumental in writing several large Rotary Foundation Global Grants, and some small Global Grants. The grants have helped to build a nursing school near Bwindi, Uganda. Jerry pointed out that by building relationships Rotarians can accomplish more that if they do not build the relationships. One of his examples is the relationship between the Bwindi Nursing School and the UNR Orvis School of Nursing. In 2025 the Bwindi Nursing School had 75 nursing students and 225 students studying other medical areas including midwifery, radiology, etc. Smaller projects include the building of sanitary latrines in schools around the nursing school. Along with the latrines, the project includes clean water and health education. Partnering with the Rotary Club of Kihihi, Uganda, the Rotary Club of Reno is working Days for Girls, a local enterprise that is locally producing reusable sanitary pad kits that are being distributed to girls ages 9 - 15.
