June 3 Presentation - Eddy House
Left to right: Jillian Keller, COO, Eddy House; President David Geddes; Trevor Macaluso, CEO, Eddy House.

Trevor Macaluso spoke to the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise about the Eddy House.  It helps homeless and At-risk youth to develop life and job skills necessary for sustainable independence.

The Eddy House originally started with a drop-in center for homeless and at-risk youth in 2011.  It grew and moved from 6th street to the corner of Willow and Locust.    The primary clients are age 18-24 years old.

The Emergency Shelter will soon house 27 men and 6 women.  (They are able to expand from 15 men to 27 men as a result of new cots being purchased by the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise Charitable Foundation.)

The Community Living Program has a capacity of 23 men and 6 women presently.  The 6-month program offers a series of courses on Career/Finance, Community, Housing/Transportation, Essential Documents, and Self-Care.  This year 71% have successfully exited.

The Transitional Living has a capacity of 6 men and lasts for 2 years.  The participants pay a nominal program service fee with the goal of saving money and eventually getting their own apartment.  In 2020 70% moved on to permanent housing.  This year, 100% have made this successful transition.

The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise is a proud contributor to this exceptional program and encourage members to tour the facilities during open house events and to help assemble the new cots when they arrive (late June to early July).  Keep posted ...

Hop-a-long Van Winkle
Jim underwent foot surgery 2 weeks ago and was able to scoot to the meeting this morning.  Ed Basl asked how much it cost to get a foot transplant and Jim answered, "First I had to pay for them to take it out of my mouth!"  We all wish Jim a rapid and full recovery.
Barry On The Road Again
Barry recently crossed the United States of America twice!  He and Jacquie zig-zagged around in his new truck, visiting relatives and seeing the countryside.  He put 6,668 miles on the truck and spent a pretty sum on gasoline and lodging, but had a blast.
