Colleen Harsin, Director of the Davidson Academy, was our speaker this morning. The Davidson Academy is a public school for profoundly gifted middle and high school students. The school is located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. It was the first free school for the highly gifted student. The Academy ranks in the top 5 middle/high schools in the United States in a number of different rankings.
A profoundly gifted student is someone who places in the 99.9 percentile on IQ tests. The students are placed into classes based on their ability rather than age and have the opportunity to take classes at UNR.
The Davidson Academy is rooted in the belief that every student should be challenged, engaged, and supported in a learning environment that places no limits on what they can achieve. We have created an educational space for profoundly gifted learners to flex their intellect, explore their passions, build their sense of self and community and learn alongside their intellectual peers.
