Debi Stears is the Collection Development Manager for the Washoe County Library. Debi overseas the curation of content for the library's twelve branches.
The Washoe County Library has seen a 50% increase in requests to remove certain content over the past several years. When a written challenge is received, the book is read by a librarian to look for the issues raised by the challenge. Based upon the library's collection development policy, a recommendation is made to the Library Board of Trustees who then make a final decision on the status of the contested content.
The presentation was well received and generated thoughtful questions from the audience.
