1 July 2025 Greetings to the new Rotary year of 2025-2026. I am the Thirty-sixth (36) President of this Club. I am also the first re-tread, or Encore, President, having been your President in 1997-1998. (There have been members who had been President of other clubs prior to their service here). What lies ahead this year? A good question. As of this writing there are twenty-six (26) members of the Club. Since the attendance requirement was lifted by Rotary International (RI), we seem to average about half at our Friday morning meetings. While it is nice to see those who attend, it would be extremely uplifting to see the remainder of the club, once again, consider joining us. Might I reflect that attendance need only be a personal decision to get us moving again. We have recently created a focal point for our efforts by becoming Partners with the PFA at Huffaker Elementary School. This resulted by our replacement at our previous endeavor, Virginia Palmer, by a large corporate sponsor. Several Club members have intimate contact with the administration of Huffaker and have brought several needs to the Board. All of which has generated an eagerness by the staff at Huffaker and a newfound focus by your Board. We remember fondly the work that we did previously and now look forward to a renewal in our desire to be a provider for our community. So, what was/is your reason for being a Rotarian? And, specifically, of the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise? Was it to have a good time? Look at our (revised) Four Way Test where we have added a Fifth Test, “Is It Fun?” Sunrise Rotary has always been a club with the reputation of being fun. Was it to be of service to our Community? We point to our history of generous giving and our continued support of Scouting groups, the Eddy House, Food Bank, Read-to-Succeed, Christmas Tree recycling, Happy Feet, and others. If it was to be an International benefactor than look to our involvement with Shelter Box, joint construction works, Medical/Dental support, disaster relief with other clubs, and so on. If you prefer to work for the Club we have Directorships, Executive positions, Web site management, Club Bulletin authorship, even a Door Greeter available. My name is Berry Courtney. (sometime known as Thomas :>)) I am a 75-year-old Encore President of your Club for 2025-2026. We need your assistance; we need your attendance; we need your work; and we’d like to see your face. Come join us. Thank you. Berry Courtney The Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise meets the First, Second, and Third Fridays of each month, holidays excepted, from 07:00 am to 08:30 am, at The Swill Coffee Shop. 3355 Lakeside Ct, Reno, NV 89509. The Fourth Fridays of the month are usually a Club Social (thanks, Charlie Fettig) and all are invited. See the club’s newsletter on FB.
