Next Speakers - RYLA
This Friday Bailey Ivory, co-chair of the RYLA Alumni Action Committee for 5180/5190, will discuss the RYLA bike project and our RYLA attendee Clark Burns will discuss his camp experience.

RYLA is an intense and incredibly challenging program, sponsored by California and Nevada Rotary Districts 5180 of Northern California and 5190 of Northern Nevada, and has been designed to engender passion, resilience, determination, mental toughness, gratitude and compassion. In addition, the program will instill in the participants the value of Service above Self, a core Rotary belief.
Officer Elections for 2023-2024
At this Friday's meeting, David Geddes will hand out paper ballots to members for election of officers.  When completed, they can be folded once and returned to David.  During the presentations, the votes will be tallied.  We will announce the results at the end of the meeting.  We are still in need of volunteers for the positions of secretary and treasurer.  Don't be shy, step up!
Call For More Member Photos
Sadly, I have run out of photographs for our Mystery Member portion of the meeting.  If you have a photograph of yourself at young age, please send it to Craig Sande in an email.

If we can't solicit more photographs of members, I suggest we switch to the guessing game "Two Truths and a Lie."  In this game, three facts about one of our members is disclosed and the audience needs to guess which of the three statements is untrue.  This is a good way to get to know more about one another.  You will be surprised!
Holiday Party at John Albrecht's Home
Reno Sunrise Rotary Club will be having our annual Holiday Party at John Albrecht's home on Friday, December 16, starting at 6 pm.

We will be providing food trays, wine selected by Jim Van Winkle, flavored sparkling water, fun and comaraderie.  If you would prefer to drink an alternative beverage, please bring it with you.

Sharing Your Skills

Bread making has been an important hobby for me.  The seed was planted by my mother when I was a child.  She would bake bread for most of our meals and would teach me how to knead the dough properly, pointing out its transformation from a sticky shaggy mess to a smooth elastic dough ball.

Those fond memories flooded back when I started baking my own bread at home years ago.  I started with yeasted breads, then shifted to sourdough or "naturally leavened" breads.  The making of sourdough bread appeals to the chemist in me as there are innumerable variables to consider - flour composition, hydration level, temperature of the ingredients and environment, gluten development, shaping techniques, proofing time/temperature, scoring, and baking technique.  In the past year I have baked well over 280 loaves (which would be about 1-2 days at a commercial bakery).  Slowly, my skill level has been steadily growing.

A primary joy of baking is to share the results with my family, friends, and yes, Rotarians.  This year I have provided bread as our raffle prize at most meetings and it has become quite popular.  I receive the satisfaction of sharing my creations and furthering my baking skills while the club benefits with additional funds for projects,   It is a win-win situation.

I am sure that many members of our club have special skills or hobbies which can be shared with membership.  Give it thought and consider sharing your efforts as a raffle prize or as part of a club project for our community.  We all have something to offer.
